ZF Friedrichshafen AG generated around 47 percent of its sales outside Western Europe in 2013 – and rising. Thanks to its global structure, the technology company is benefitting from growth markets in Asia-Pacific as well as in South and North America. ZF offers mobility technologies in line with market requirements around the globe and combines these where necessary with engineering and industrialization know-how locally. Many automotive and commercial vehicle manufacturers want this kind of expertise. This international focus is supported by the Group’s global service operations.
A commercial vehicle transmission that ZF produces at four locations on three continents: Business with commercial vehicle technology at ZF has long been global. In total, the technology company is present in 26 countries worldwide with 122 production companies.
Global footprint
With this extensive global production network, ZF not only fulfills orders from established customers based in Western Europe, but also customers in the emerging markets of Asia as well as South and North America. The new global players, which are emerging in these market regions, also turn to the technology leader ZF when it comes to driveline and chassis technology for commercial vehicles. “It is our aim to grow even more in these world markets,” says Dr. Stefan Sommer, CEO of ZF Friedrichshafen AG. This also applies to the business with coaches and trucks. Last year, the business with heavy commercial vehicles (over 6 tons) accounted for one fifth (20 percent) of Group sales at ZF. Three examples: In 2013, the ZF Group produced 521 000 commercial vehicle transmissions worldwide; more than 10 million dampers were produced for commercial vehicle customers at the global level;
10.4 million chassis components were manufactured by ZF locations for the commercial vehicle sector.
ZF is not only represented in all countries with own locations but with materials management and engineering, ZF also follows the “local for local” principle. Engineers at the ZF development locations are increasingly processing important product or application development packages locally – factoring in market- specific requirements in the process.
Services and aftermarket
With its global service organization, the ZF Group also provides its customers with spare parts as well as repair and maintenance services. The global network of more than 650 service centers extends to virtually every corner of the globe. Its service portfolio also reflects the technical expertise of the standard equipment supplier ZF – and at the same time rounds off its portfolio.
