All about proper use and maintenance of tyres

Tyre-Maintenance-picAs for air pressure, tyres should be inflated according to the current standards stipulated in the pressure & loading index. After inflation, tyres should be checked carefully for leak. If found, the leak should be attended to forthwith.

Tyres in use must have normal internal air pressure. During long driving, the tyre pressure should be thoroughly checked. High pressure causes crown grinding and top bursting, while low pressure causes tyre deformation and damage. Twin tyres must be assured of consistent inflation pressure.

Tyre loads must comply with the current national standards. Loading of goods in vehicles should be so distributed as to avoid uneven load. Overloading can cause serious abnormal tyre thread wear, shoulder separation, delamination, toe blasting, etc. High ply level and high tyres load index won’t suit high-speed driving. Enhanced design tyres can be loaded more properly according to the design standards.

With different speed levels and with all kinds of tyres in use, speeding may cause early tyre damage. Try to minimize sudden braking and sharp turns on bad roads for avoiding tyres hitting harmful objects, particularly sharp ones.

High-speed tyres are heated up soon. When the temperature is too high, timely measures like stopping for natural cooling must be taken to prevent carcass bursting. High-speed tyres assembled with rims must be tested for balancing weight and calibration.

Storage

Tyres should always be stored in properly built warehouses for protection from rain or sunshine. They must be in storage away from heat, ozone and generator. Do not keep them horizontally.

When handling tyres by forklift, do it from side tyres. Do not lift them with fork into the center hole of bead. Do not hang or raise tyres by rope, hook or fork directly; instead do it with a wide textile fiber belt. Sets of tyres may be wrapped or packed by rope or packing tape for avoiding damage. Loading goods must be properly distributed into vehicles.

Tyres must be fitted to the proper models of vehicles and the wheel. Installation and removal of tyres should be with specialized tools and equipments. Tyres on the same axle must be of the same structure, size, pattern and ply. Never install bias and radial tyres together.

Longitudinal tread pattern with less rolling resistance and fast speed suits cement, asphalt and other solid road surface. Cross groove with excellent grasping and climbing performance suits ordinary road conditions in countries like China.
