Quality engineering behind Chaphekar’s steady progress

Chaphekar Engineering Pvt. Ltd. has been able to deliver efficient solutions to many customers across the country. It has constantly expanded its customer base by providing tailor-made solutions specially designed to customer requirements. The company that started off by building cargo bodies in 1985 has considerably expanded its product range. Today, it not only manufactures cargo bodies for one tonne to 31T vehicles, offering over 60 different products across the range but also supplies containers with side-opening doors, or bottle-carriers and tarpoline curtain sliders on a 9 metre long vehicle, and reefer vans.

“We have developed strong capabilities in manufacturing different truck applications, including containers, tippers, trailers, car carriers, as also specialized products such as cafeteria vans, service vans, vaccine vans and refrigerated vans. In the next couple of years we want to focus more on the value-added segments comprising specialised vehicles which will help us grow steadily,” says Mr. Sachin A. Chaphekar, Director, Chaphekar Engineering Pvt. Ltd.

Vision 2020

Apart from the variety of products, Chaphekar is also working on setting up a culturally more enhanced organization. “When people emerge to their full strength they can do more things in a more efficient manner. We are working on making our operations leaner. Since quality is always going to be a differentiator in the long term, we are also looking at automation/robotisation of our operations,” explained Mr. Ashok Y. Chaphekar, CMD, Chaphekar Engineering Pvt. Ltd.

Chaphekar’s CED plant was a step towards automation as well quality product. Even in terms of capacities, Chaphekar has a healty set-up of catering to approximately 30,000 cargo bodies a year.

“In FY15-16, over 85 per cent of our sales came from the OEM segment, while the rest was from specialized bodies for end-customers. Going ahead, in the next 2 years we are expecting at least 20 per cent growth and by 2020 we should have expanded our capacity by another 50 per cent from the current level,” reveals Mr. Sachin Chaphekar.
