Rajesh Rajgor speaks to K. Ramasamy, Chairman, and K. Saravanasundaram, Joint Managing Director of ROOTS, as they discuss the company’s trajectory in addressing the evolving demands of the global automotive sector. As vehicle technologies shift toward micro, high-performance solutions, ROOTS is innovating with new offerings that cater to both electric and internal combustion vehicles. “We are continuously developing products that resonate with current trends, focusing on compact, energy-efficient models suitable for a diverse range of vehicle types,” Saravanasundaram shared.
ROOTS showcased several advancements at the event, emphasizing their commitment to mechatronics with a focus on DC-DC converters and smart USB charging units. These products cater to Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) and the aftermarket, particularly in Europe and America. “Automechanika Frankfurt allows us to launch globally applicable products that meet high standards, tailored specifically to our clients’ needs,” Ramasamy explained.
Their strategy is to balance a robust electronics portfolio with ROOTS’ established reputation in signaling devices, particularly in the European and Indian markets. “Our presence in the aftermarket is expanding,” said Ramasamy. “We prioritize quality, ensuring our products exceed specifications across various markets, whether in India or Europe.”
Understanding and responding to regional needs has been key for ROOTS as they adapt their technology to different market standards. “Our products for the Indian market, for instance, are designed to perform even better than required for European standards, given the high usage of horns in India,” noted Saravanasundaram. The company’s commitment to quality and performance extends across all product lines, establishing them as reliable partners in premium vehicle sectors and fostering long-term relationships with clients like BMW, Ducati, Fantic, Benelli, Harley Davidson and other top OEMs like Skoda, VW, Toyota , MG, Renault, Nissan, Mahindra, Jeep, Citreon, Volvo Eicher, Bharath Benz, Navistar, Peterbilt, Kenworth etc.
ROOTS’ manufacturing capabilities are continually optimized through value engineering and cost reduction without sacrificing quality. “Staying competitive in a rapidly changing market means continuously improving, whether through material enhancements or design innovations,” Saravanasundaram emphasized. This approach has enabled ROOTS to keep pace with the industry’s needs while staying cost-effective and ensuring customer satisfaction.
The future of ROOTS’ growth lies in both their signature products, like horns, and their expanding electronics segment. They expect a 10-15% annual growth in horns and even higher in electronics. “We’ve invested heavily in electronics and high-tech manufacturing,” said Ramasamy, adding, “The automotive landscape is increasingly electronic-driven, and ROOTS is set to be a major player, particularly in electric vehicle components like DC-DC converters.”
As they prepare to bring new products to the market and grow internationally, ROOTS is positioned to continue leading in automotive innovation. “Our focus is on meeting future demands without compromising our brand’s value,” Ramasamy concluded. With a solid foundation and clear vision, ROOTS remains committed to driving advancements that meet the evolving needs of customers worldwide.
