Interpump Hydraulics (IPH) India started as a PTO & Pump manufacturing company and has now expanded into hydraulic cylinder manufacturing through Interpump International. IPH India has state of the art technology for machining, assembly and testing of hydraulic cylinders for mobile hydraulic applications in two locations Hosur (Tamil Nadu) and Rudrapur (Uttaranchal) respectively. Mr. Girish Garud, Managing Director, discloses his viewpoints on the above subject.

Mandatory and other safety requirements in products
Normally due to overloading or due to faulty operation of the driver, there is a tendancy of the tipper to topple, which can be very dangerous to human life. We have devised a system, primarily known as inclinometer, which when fitted, measures the angle of the tipper with respect to ground. If this angle increases beyond the specified limit, it cuts off the drive to the pump, which in turn stops the tipping process instantly, ensuring that the tipper does not topple. We feel this should be made mandatory for all tippers. We have also designed the cabin control valve, which has a dead man control feature. It means that while tipping, if the driver gets a heart attack, and he leaves the tipping valve, the valve automatically stops the tipping process in the condition it is, whereas in the normal switch today the process will be continued, which can be dangerous for the vehicle and the people around the vehicle.
Light-weighting necessity and trend
In today’s world every gram of weight is important, as the reduction in the product load can give additional payload to the end user earning him few ruppees more. Looking at this trend IPH has started designing the Power Take Off in aluminium instead of the conventional steel material. This gives a reduction in weight by around 50-60%. We have successfully designed some PTO’s and have supplied to certain OEM’s. Also for the smaller vehicles, we have a complete range of PTO and Pumps in alumiuim material. We would be further changing some other models also to aluminium, for heavy duty tippers, depending on the application and the cost.
