Sandvik Coromant India has opened its new global center in Pune for productivity, application, machining and research in manufacturing. This 18,000 sq. ft. facility, one of the six such centres across the Sandvik Coromant portfolio, involved an investment of SEK 35 million (Rs. 27 crores). The other centres are Langfang in China, Schaumburg and Fair Lawn in the US, Queretaro in Mexico, and Sandviken in Sweden.
Addressing the media in Pune, Mr. Javier Guerra, President, Sandvik Coromant India, Sandvik Asia Pvt. Ltd., said he was quite happy to announce the company’s endeavour to offer cutting-edge solutions and expertise to customers through the world-class Sandvik Coromant center in Pune. “The facility will be of great service to anyone who is interested in productivity gains, cutting-edge research and the future of global manufacturing.”
The Pune center will strengthen the company’s position as the global leader in competence and innovation within India’s manufacturing industry. The facility is a meeting place where visitors can interact and co-operate in a modern and inspiring environment, enabling physical and digital collaboration.
For Innovation Conclave 2018, it is estimated that the Sandvik Coromant Center in Pune will attract 2,000 visitors from all over India. They will have access to the latest technology, products, engineering competence and customized solutions. They can also get connected to other facilities in the world and, in addition, participate in various training activities, joining over 30,000 individuals trained by Sandvik Coromant every year.
Importantly, the new Sandvik Coromant Center is equipped with Digital Live Machining (DLM), a technical platform that streams live machining demonstrations (via the cloud) to remote locations.
Mr. Javier Guerra, in a detailed PowerPoint presentation to the visiting media, said Sandvik core values lie in customer focus, innovation, fair play, and passion to win. It was in 1862 that for the first time in the world redesigning of metal into steel took place. Later on, in 1942, Sandvik was born as a solution provider.
With several innovative patents to its credit, Sandvik has a total workforce of 32,000 spread out in 150 countries. It has a unique distinction of developing six new products every day, worldwide. In the R&D division alone it has 500 well-trained people with 520 patents. Currently, it has 60 R&D centres across the globe.
Referring to the role of Sandvik Coromant in India, started in 1960, it has employed 700 people with total field sales staff of 350. The Coromant Division has been well supported by 75 distributors across India with 50,000 products in stock available, apart from tailor-made solutions. The Coromant Product Division basically offers solution for engineering, manufacturing, logistics, education, sustainability, etc.
The prestigious customers of Sandvik Coromant in India include Volvo, Tata Motors, Bosch, BMW, Kirloskar, etc. Globally it has 18 application centres, including the one in Pune. Overall, Sandvik Coromant is considered a one-stop shop for the customers in the field of engineering, manufacturing, digital, events, education, etc.
Mr. Sunil Joshi, Vice President, Digital Machining, South & East Asia, Sandvik Coromant India, Sandvik Asia Pvt. Ltd., made a presentation on Industry 4.0 – Breakthrough Innovation in Prime Turning.
Mr. Sharad Kulkarni, AVP – Round Tools (South and East Asia), Sandvik Coromant India, Sandvik Asia Pvt. Ltd., spoke on solid round tools and their benefits to the customers.
On this occasion, a plant tour for the media was also arranged.
