Scania’s customer-centric solutions presented at IAA

Scania showcased an interesting line-up of customer-focused solutions at IAA 2012. With the Euro 6 emission norms drawing widespread attention, the Scandinavian company exhibited its 9- and 13-litre Euro 6 engines for trucks and buses and its new high-performance Euro 6 gas engines.

In addition to the classy vehicles on display which included its off-road trucks for the first time, the company also presented a variety of solutions for customers under the Scania Ecolution package.

Scania’s solutions for customers began with the hardware. Its new versatile engine line-up for Euro 6 featuring outputs from 250 up to 480 hp was on display at its pavilion. The four 9-litre Euro 6 diesel engines feature either EGR/SCR (250 and 280 hp) or only SCR technology (320 and 360 hp).

The 13-litre 440 and 480 hp engines are equipped with combined EGR/SCR technology. Two new Euro 6 gas-powered engines break the ground for new applications with high torque ratings and diesel-like performance.

Scania’s inline engines for trucks are also used for the company buses and coaches – including the alternative fuel options biogas, natural gas and ethanol, and the new Euro 6 range. The Citywide low-floor bus and the OmniExpress 3.20 Euro 6, specified for the German market, too were on display, while the Scania Touring and the OmniExpress 3.60 were displayed outdoors.

With fuel consumption being a growing concern for fleet operators, fuel optimisation measures were prominent on the Scania stand, as were transport solutions in many applications. Drivers and operators could benefit from a wide range of Scania-developed support systems, complemented by the first-ever Scania apps for smartphones and tablet PCs.

The Scania off-road trucks launched in 2011 were exhibited for the first time, represented by a sturdy tipper. These new trucks are designed to cope with the toughest road conditions encountered and come with advanced features such as enhanced mobility, gear-changing adapted for construction driving and a new version of the Scania Retarder that is extra powerful at low speed. Ecolution by Scania is the optimal solution for maximising the fuel economy and reducing CO2 emissions, with the potential of improving the fuel economy by up to 10-15 per cent. It also includes personal driver coaching and special maintenance packages for customers.
