In order to help the deserving children of small transporters, drivers and staff of fleet operators who are proficient in studies but are unable to continue education due to monetary constraints, Shriram Foundation organized its nation-wide launch of the Education Support Scheme through the Chennai Goods Transport Association (CGTA) on July 21.
Support was given on the occasion to children of any school that does not charge exorbitant fees. The children of the staff of other transport association were also covered. A total of Rs. 6.56 lakhs was distributed to 203 students from different schools.
Mrs. Vidya Shankar, who is the honorary project head and the Trustee of Shriram Foundation and the honorary Chief of Project GIVELIFE Trust, the two pivotal organisations funded and managed by the Shriram Group CSR wing, was the chief guest on the occasion. Also present were Mr. Puntambekar, Vice President, Shiram Transport Finance Co. Ltd., and Thiru Namassivayam, Senior Principal of Mahirshi Vidyalaya.
The venue was utilized to give opportunities to the children to show their extra-curricular talents. They also performed cultural programmes which were well appreciated by all those present there. The children also received prizes for exhibiting their skills.
