Siemens has recently donated a 14-passenger hybrid bus to the Chattahoochee Nature Center in Metro Atlanta.
The Azure Dynamics Gasoline hybrid-electric bus is equipped with the Siemens ELFA technology that drives the vehicle and transfers its braking energy back into the battery through the hybrid electric power train. This helps in reducing carbon footprint, fuel costs and noise pollution.
The hybrid bus will enable the center to enhance its environmental mission, by adopting more green energy measures. These benefits are important as global and local demands are made on corporations, organizations and governments to implement emission initiatives complying with noise reduction ordinances.
Siemens Hybrid Drives solutions for trucks and buses are an integral part to provide sustainable and environmentally responsible transportation solution. The vehicle is accessible for handicaps too.
Earlier, Siemens donated an all-electric van to Lambert High School in Forsyth County. It is an informational center located on the Chattahoochee River in Roswell, dedicated to environmental education and consists of a Gold level LEED certified Discovery Center Museum and a Nature Exchange.
In January, Volvo Buses and Siemens signed an agreement for the supply of complete electrified bus systems to various global cities, under which Siemens will supply and install high-power charging stations for electric vehicles. The two companies were working together since 2012 in the electro-mobility segment and have now strengthened the co-operation further. One objective of the deal is to develop a standard for charging infrastructure to help cities transfer to electrified bus systems.
Volvo Buses and Siemens have already delivered a complete city mobility solution consisting of three Volvo electric hybrid buses and four charging stations to Hamburg. Besides, full electric buses, electric hybrids and charging infrastructure will be delivered to Gothenburg and Stockholm in Sweden this year.
