SKF opens two more labs at GTCI

SKF, the global technology and solutions provider of bearings, seals, lubrication systems, mechatronics and services, has opened its Product Investigation Centre (PIC) and Mechatronics Laboratory at its Global Technical Centre India (GTCI) in Bangalore.

This initiative will further reinforce SKF’s commitment to innovation by setting up industry benchmarks in product research, quality and standards. Additionally, these centres are part of SKF’s strategy to provide knowledge engineering competence in India by working closely with customers on its five platforms – bearings and units, seals, lubrication systems, mechatronics and services.

“These initiatives will bring SKF’s knowledge engineering capability closer to the customer and help us develop and deliver world class solutions at the desired speed. We believe that both these initiatives will help build a competitive advantage for our customers while helping SKF achieve customer service excellence,” said Mr. Shishir Joshipura, Managing Director and Country Head.

PIC will offer SKF customers with services such as advanced analysis of bearing field usage and post endurance testing evaluation, with high quality and faster response time. Additionally, the lab will also have state-of-the-art Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM), X-ray diffraction machine, a grease analysis facility and metrology equipment.

The Mechatronics lab is intended to expand mechatronics competencies and product offerings in the Indian market. In order to offer enhanced services, the lab is equipped with technically advanced initiatives to help customers with services, including new product development, firmware testing and investigation of sensor bearing field returns.

Commenting on the establishment of the new facilities, Mr. Arun Shivaram, Director – Global Technical Centre India, said: “The Product Investigation Centre and Mechatronics Lab are important and natural extension of our offerings from GTCI. This initiative will provide a platform for delivering complete engineering solutions to our customers and leverage in-house capabilities at GTCI. Additionally, the centre is committed to work closer with our customers in India and provide innovative products and solutions to address their need”.

SKF opened GTCI in December 2011, reinforcing its global strategy to open global technical centres to work closer to customers. GTCI supports customers in India and South-East Asia, as well as global projects for SKF. The two new laboratories will reduce the time-frame for product development and enhance the solutions portfolio, bringing innovation closer to customers.
