Subros Ltd., a leading manufacturer of thermal products for automotive applications in India, provides a range of bus air-conditioners and transport refrigeration solutions in addition to its core business of passenger vehicle air conditioning systems. It is the only company with fully integrated setup to manufacture compressors, condensers, heat exchangers and all connecting elements required to complete AC loop, catering to all automotive segments like passenger vehicles, buses, trucks, refrigeration transport and off-roaders. As part of its expansion plan, Subros has set up a new plant at Oragadam near Chennai.
Commenting on the prospects of the proposed Oragadam plant, Mr. Pawan Sabharwal, Director, Marketing, Subros, told MOTORINDIA: “The Chennai plant, with an initial investment of Rs. 25 crores and another 25 crores planned in due course, will focus majorly on commercial vehicle air-conditioning business apart from production base for thermal engineering products for aftermarket applications.
He said the company has manufacturing facilities at Noida, Manesar, Chakan (Pune), Sanand (Gujarat) and Chennai, with an installed capacity of 1.5 million AC kits per annum, as also a well-equipped R&D centre and a tool room at Noida. The company is in the process of shifting its entire bus AC lines from its Pune and Manesar facilities to the Chennai plant.
According to Mr. Sabharwal, with world-class state-of-the-art technology and testing facilities, 70% of Subros output goes to Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. (MSIL) from its Manesar facility. The company has already bagged orders for AC systems from Daimler, AL-Nissan and Renault-Nissan for their different vehicle models.
With the AC business for commercial vehicles picking up, the company has set a target of 10 per cent of its total turnover from the non-car segment in India, which might gradually increase to 30 per cent in due course.
Referring to the export market, Mr. Sabharwal said the company has plans to tap the aftermarket business overseas for its condensers, radiators, etc. In India, it enjoys a 40 per cent marketshare in AC business.
