Surinder Kanwar is new ACMA President

The Automotive Component Manufactures Association of India (ACMA), at its 52nd annual session held on September 5, announced change of guards in its top leadership.

Announcing the appointment of new ACMA President and Vice President, Mr. Vinnie Mehta, Executive Director, ACMA, said: “We are pleased to have Surinder Kanwar on board as the ACMA President for 2012-13 and hope that, with him at the helm, the association will scale even greater heights.

We are also delighted to have Harish Lakshman, a young and dynamic industry leader, as our new Vice President. Further, the new ACMA Executive Committee comprises well known leaders from the auto component sector, and we look forward to their active contribution through the year ahead”.

Mr. Surinder Kanwar, an industry veteran for the last 40 years, is currently the Chairman and Managing Director of Bharat Gears Ltd. & Raunaq International Ltd. He has actively contributed to ACMA in his earlier roles as its Vice President in 2011-12 and as Chairman of Western Region from 2006 to 2010. He was also the Chairman of Technical Panel of ACMA during 2001-2002 and also of the Raw Material Committee during 2005-2006.

Mr. Harish Lakshman, an engineer from BITS Pilani and an MBA from the Purdue University, USA, is currently the Vice Chairman of Rane Engine Valve Ltd. and the Managing Director of Rane TRW Steering System Ltd. He has also been ACMA Chairman for the Southern Region during 2009-11.

On ACMA’s vision for the coming year, Mr. Surinder Kanwar said: “We shall continue to build and strengthen ACMA’s agenda through focus on R&D, innovation and new product development through symbiotic relationships with our customers as also exploring newer opportunities for our membership for sustaining the industry competitiveness.

We would also continue to engage closely with the Government on various issues critical to the auto component industry. I would also like to thank Mr. Arvind Kapur, our outgoing President, for his significant contribution and wish him all the success for the future”.

Mr. Harish Lakshman observed: “I would like to thank ACMA for entrusting me with this responsibility. I look forward to working under the leadership of Mr. Surinder Kanwar during the year. I am confident that through our collective efforts we will be able to make positive interventions for the growth and development of the auto component industry in India”.
