The Association of State Road Transport Undertakings (ASRTU), an apex coordinating body of all state road transport undertakings (SRTUs) in India, announced the appointment of T Surya Kiran as its Executive Director. The Secretary, Road Transport and Highways, Government of India, is an ex officio president of ASRTU and it functions under the aegis of the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, GOI. ASRTU, incorporated under the Societies Registration Act in 1965, has been set up to provide a common platform for advocacy and technical consultancy services to its member STUs.
At present there are 65 members and five associated members. Central Institute of Road Transport (CIRT) is a technical organ of ASRTU. ASRTU serves as a forum to discuss the latest developments, identify key issues and challenges, and exchange information on the best practices of the state road transport undertakings.
Surya Kiran, Chief Personnel Manager, Telangana State Transport Corporation (TSRTC) has taken over charge of ED from May 25. The ED is the Chief Executive Officer of the institution and actively carries out advocacy services for road-based public transport in the country in coordination with the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways.
