In this special interview at IAA Transportation 2022 with Arvind Goel, Managing Director and CEO, Tata Autocomp Systems, Rajesh Rajgor learns more about the Indian conglomerate’s strengths that cover the whole value chain in manufacturing, engineering, and supply chain
What has Tata AutoComp on display?
We are displaying our products and technology in three spaces, specific products to support Electric Vehicles, our manufacturing technologies that help enhance Safety, aesthetics and comfort as well as our capabilities to offer Light-weighting solutions through our R&D capabilities.
In India, we are pioneers in bringing components and solutions required to support the manufacture of Electric Vehicles across all segments – Passenger Vehicles, Commercial Vehicles as well as 2 wheelers. These include the Battery Pack and BMS, Electric Motors as well as all the Cooling modules. We are wishing to offer these technologies to the OEMs in Europe and US. We have invested a lot in localizing most of the parts and we continue to do so, hence we believe that we can offer value for money solutions to these customers.
Currently, we are seeing normal internal combustion engine vehicles being converted into electric vehicles. Soon OEMs will start designing Electric vehicles bottom up. This will require a lot of light-weighting solutions to ensure that these vehicles can optimize the power for a longer range. We are offering various light weighting solutions based on Composites, Aluminium Stamping and other technologies. These will add value to our offering to the customers.
What segments would you like to focus in these markets?
In Europe and US, we would like to focus on small commercial vehicles, medium and heavy duty trucks as well as passenger vehicles. We have good relations with most OEMs and through our presence in Europe, US and China and would like to explore opportunities to serve them with our latest technologies in areas of electrification, emerging technologies like Hydrogen fuel as well as bring to them the cost advantage through our manufacturing and engineering capabilities in India.
What would be the USP that you can offer to these customers?
Our USP is creativity and cost-effective engineering. We invest a lot in research and development that allows us to bring advanced technologies at an affordable price. Ultimately, each OEM is looking for affordable prices. We believe that through our experience in India, we can bring affordable and appropriate technologies to these customers. We would like to offer these expertise across all areas of the vehicle, be it products for EV powertrain, power train cooling solutions, light-weighting solutions as well as interior and exterior components and aggregates.
