For Tata Motors, the country’s largest commercial vehicle maker, the medium and heavy commercial vehicle segment as well as exports have contributed a great deal for the overall performance.
Tata Motors’ total sales, including exports of commercial and passenger vehicles in December 2014, were 41,734 units, a growth of 10 per cent over 37,836 vehicles sold in December 2013. The company’s domestic sales in December were 37,776 units, eight per cent higher than 35,010 vehicles sold in December 2013.
While the market continues to remain challenged by macro-economic trends, segments such as M&HCV showed a 62 per cent growth year-on-year. The other segments such as passenger cars continue to show positive growth of 52 per cent, and exports have grown in December by 40 per cent over the same month last year.
The company’s sales of commercial vehicles in December 2014 in the domestic market at 25,736 units remained flat. LCV sales totalled 13,298 units, a decline of 26 per cent over December 2013, while M&HCV sales continued to show growth at 12,438 units, which is higher by 62 per cent, over the same month last year.
Cumulative sales of commercial vehicles in the domestic market for the fiscal were at 234,142 units, lower by 21 per cent over last year. Cumulative LCV sales totalled 145,425 units, representing a decline of 32 per cent over last year, while M&HCV sales at 88,717 units were higher by 10 per cent.
The company’s exports totalled 3,958 units in December 2014, showing an increase of 40 per cent over 2,826 vehicles sold in the same month last year. The cumulative exports for the fiscal at 36,626 units grew marginally by one per cent over last year.
