Tata Motors’ one-tonne truck introduced in South Africa

Tata Motors recently launched its one-tonne diesel mini-truck, the Tata Super ACE, an ideal vehicle for intra-city and last-mile distribution applications, in South Africa.

The vehicle model is a combination of new-age design, superior performance, space, comfort, safety and operating economy, delivering exactly what a transportation business requires.

The Tata Super ACE has been designed to easily navigate narrow and busy roads, with its compact dimensions of 4.34 m in length, 1.56 m in width and a turning radius of 5.1 m, with ease.

Its strong and sturdy chassis is made from high strength steel for maximum durability. With a full 1-tonne loading capacity, multiple body options and the longest-in-class loading deck of 2.63 m, the vehicle offers best-in-class operating economy.

The three-way drop-side load body and optimum loading height of 60 cm make the vehicle a supremely flexible option for various applications.

The vehicle cabin is air-conditioned. The interiors have been designed keeping comfort and convenience in mind, with features like laminated windscreen, tinted glasses, power windows, power steering, external power socket and lockable glove box. The newly-designed ‘soft touch’ dashboard in addition to the instrument cluster also has a sophisticated HVAC system which will further enhance the levels of comfort.

The Tata Super ACE is equipped with a 4-cylinder, turbo-charged & intercooled (475 IDI) diesel engine that is coupled with a 5-speed fully synchromesh gearbox. Its diesel engine delivers a power of 70 hp (52 kW) and a peak torque of 135 Nm at very low rpms. The gradeability of 39 per cent allows the vehicle to climb steep slopes and negotiate difficult terrains. Front independent suspension ensures a very comfortable ride.

With a fuel consumption of 14 kmpl or 7.2 L / 100 km and competitively priced spare parts, the running cost of the Tata Super ACE is one of the lowest in the market.

A 3-year/60,000 km complimentary maintenance plan, 3-year/100,000 km warranty and 3-year/unlimited km roadside assistance make the Tata Super ACE a superior choice for small and medium businesses. It will be available in two trims. The price ranges from R 109,995 (including VAT) for the lower-end model and R 116,995 for the top model.

With the launch of this vehicle, Tata Motors now has a commercial vehicle for every need in South Africa, ranging from the 1-tonne mini-truck to 56 tonne gross combination mass prime movers.

The distribution of Tata pick-ups in South Africa started in 2004 through Accordian Investments (Pty) Ltd., a subsidiary of Associated Motors Holdings (AMH), which currently operates through a network of about 60 sales and service dealers. Tata Motors’ portfolio in South Africa comprises 20 commercial vehicle models and three passenger car models, with over 65,000 company vehicles plying on roads in the country.
