The Tamilnadu Omni Bus Owners Association (TOBOA) conducted a road safety & welfare seminar for drivers in Chennai from December 16 to 19. The event, organized in association with the Road Transport Authority, Chennai City Traffic Police, vehicle manufacturers and the Professional Driver Training Academy, was a big success as it attracted participation from nearly 1,700 people, including over 1,250 drivers from among large and small fleet operators in the four southern States of Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh and Kerala.
The inaugural function was presided over by Dr. T. Prabhakar Rao, Principal Secretary & Transport Commissioner of the Tamil Nadu Government, and Mr. Paneer Selvam, Deputy Commissioner, Chennai City Traffic Police. TOBOA had striven hard for a month and a half before the event which evoked excellent response.
As part of the meet, the drivers were given tips on safe and efficient driving, which included detailed presentations by representatives of vehicle OEMs. In addition, a complete health check-up was done for the drivers who were much impressed with the overall treatment meted out to them.
Expressing his views on the success of the meet, Mr. A. Afzal, TOBOA President, said: “We are glad to have had participation from all the stakeholders in the transport industry, which shows that everybody realizes the need for such meets. The drivers are very happy as well and are eagerly looking forward to the next seminar, especially the health check-up which was an eye-opener for many. We are planning to have more such meets in future, at least once every six months.”
