Truck, Trailer and Tyre Expo 2024 – Innovations in Axles, Trailers and Telematics to Shape the Future of CVs

At the 8th edition of the Truck Trailer and Tyre Show, held at the Mahatma Mandir Exhibition and Convention Centre in Gandhinagar from 29th to 31st August 2024, Gujarat, the spotlight was on the latest innovations transforming the transportation sector. From advanced axles and durable suspensions to next-gen telematics and smart fleet management solutions, the event showcased cutting-edge technology driving the future of logistics. These innovations promise to enhance vehicle performance, safety, and efficiency across the industry

Despite heavy rains and unexpected flooding in several areas just before the event, which affected train and road travel, the event was extremely well-organized. Seamless communication and a supportive team ensured the entire process, from set-up to take-down, ran incredibly smoothly. The venue provided the perfect atmosphere for connecting with both existing and potential customers. Although the first day began with a lower turnout, business visitors steadily increased by the afternoon. The second and third days saw an impressive number of industry visitors, with over 7,500 attendees across the three days, making the event a great success.

Shailesh I. Patwari, Former President, Gujarat Chambers of Commerce & Industry, along with Mukeshbhai C. Dave, Executive President, Akhil Gujarat Truck Transport, Mohd Mudassir Ahmed, Ramchandra Soundalkar from Media Day Marketing (organisers), other dignitaries from Ahmedabad Motor Transport Association and exhibitors, inaugurated the show. Game-Changing Products Displayed

Among the myriads of exhibitors, several key players stood out, impressing visitors with their innovative offerings. Aditi Tracking, a leader in telematics services in India, was represented by Chirag Rachh, the company’s CEO. He shared insights about their advanced solutions tailored for the truck and transport sectors. “We provide solutions such as fuel monitoring, vehicle diagnostics, and temperature monitoring,” he explained. Their recent introduction of video telematics, allowing real-time vehicle monitoring, was particularly well-received, enhancing operational transparency and control for transporters. The eye-catching display featured their user-friendly interface on tablets and mobile apps showcasing how their technology simplifies fleet management. With a focus on SMEs and MSMEs, Aditi Tracking is committed to streamlining business operations, showcasing a promising future as they expand their team and services.

Ramkrishna Forgings, one of India’s oldest forging groups, also garnered attention. Gyan Prakash Ojha, the Vice President of Marketing and Sales, showcased their diverse product portfolio, emphasizing their axles, kingpins, and landing legs. “Our axles, ranging from 13T to 16T, with suspension variant are certified by ARAI and ICAT,” he shared, highlighting the innovative design that utilizes a fabricated hub for enhanced durability. Their booth featured live demonstrations of their products, allowing attendees to see firsthand the superior quality and performance of their axles in action. Their current production capacity of 3,000 axles per month positions Ram Krishna Forgings as a key player ready to meet the growing demands of the truck and trailer market. Ojha also noted that their commitment to research and development has led to continuous improvements in product quality, further establishing their reputation in the industry.

The Bosch Mobility Platform made a significant impact at the event. Nitinvarman Mani, GTM Lead – Logistics, presented their solutions aimed at unifying fragmented fleet management systems. “We don’t just provide services; we become a growth partner for our customers,” he stated, underscoring Bosch’s commitment to delivering integrated solutions that offer meaningful insights for fleet owners. Their innovative approach, which incorporates AI and data analytics, transforms how businesses manage their operations, setting a new standard for efficiency in the logistics sector. Attendees were particularly intrigued by their interactive display that showcased how real-time data analytics could improve decision-making and enhance operational efficiency. Bosch’s emphasis on sustainability and smart technology resonated well with the audience, emphasizing their role in shaping the future of transportation.

Deccan Vehicles Pvt. Ltd. showcased its latest products in the Samrat series, specifically designed for overload applications from RS 14 to 16 tonnes along with air and bell-rank suspensions. Sachin Punekar, Executive Director, emphasized their robust after-sales support and partnerships in Gujarat, enhancing their presence in the local market. “We understand the demands of the local industry and have tailored our solutions accordingly and have two service centers one in Baroda and another in Gandhidham for trailer, repair and maintenance along with wheel alignment facility,” he stated, highlighting their commitment to customer satisfaction. The emphasis on seamless axles and air suspensions demonstrated their commitment to meeting the evolving needs of fleet operators. Their exhibition featured the Samrat trailer, designed to carry heavy loads while maintaining stability and safety on the road. Punekar elaborated, “Our focus is on developing lightweight solutions that improve fuel efficiency and reduce operational costs.” Additionally, the company supported York trailer spare part requirements through more than 100 retail outlets across Gujarat to support York Trailer spare parts for our customers.

Five Laser Cut, co-founded by Akhil Shrimal, Arpit Dixit and IS Rathore, introduced the Virat Trailer, which they proudly claim to be one of the lightest trailers in India, allowing for increased payload capacity by 2.5 MT+ while reducing operational costs and capex cost. “The Virat trailer represents a significant advancement in design and efficiency, allowing fleet operators to maximize their operations and profitability,” Akhil noted. Their innovative design, which incorporates use of best-in-class materials from SSAB, Sweden and enhanced durability, has positioned the Virat trailer as a game-changer in the market. The trailer boasts a weight reduction of up to 30%-40% compared to traditional models, leading to a substantial increase in payload capacity. Akhil and Arpit discussed the engineering advancements behind the trailer’s design, emphasizing their commitment to quality and performance. Their striking display included a detailed comparison of the Virat trailer against conventional models, highlighting its superior design and efficiency. With plans to scale production significantly, Five Laser Cut is poised for growth in the competitive landscape of trailer manufacturing, aiming to capture a significant market share.

Five Laser Cut offers a diverse product basket under Virat brand, including Sidewall Trailer, Tip- Trailer, Containerized Trailers, Flatbed Trailer, Bulker Trailer, Rock body Tippper and special purpose vehicles. Five Lasercut founded in Dec-22 and started operations as OEM supplier to Mahindra & Mahindra, CG Power & Industrial Solutions, Metso etc and Wear solutions to Cement and Power Industry. The Trailers is AIS-113 approved by NATRAX (Govt of India) and the design is approved under global novelty check for Patent.

Akhil and Arpit also showcased their trailers in the Expo with BPW, a leading global manufacturer of axle systems, to enhance their offerings further. “BPW allows Trailer Manufacturers to integrate world-class axle technology into trailers, ensuring safety and performance for end customers,” Vishnu Jadhav, Head of Sales & Marketing, BPW Trailer Systems India P. LTD. explained.

Cutting-edge Wheel Services, Axles, and Suspensions

ATS Elgi showcased a variety of innovative wheel service products. With a legacy of 65 years and a portfolio of 250 products, ATS ELGI is recognized for both truck solutions and comprehensive workshop equipment.

Among the highlighted products was the 3D Alliance wheel alignment system, which is a premium offering that stands out in the market for its advanced technology. The company also displayed a wheel balancer equipped with a lift, facilitating easier and more efficient balancing of truck wheels. Although the tyre changer was not exhibited, they emphasized their nitrogen inflator designed specifically for trucks, featuring an external tank for convenience.

ATS Elgi is targeting fleets, workshops, and tyre shops to expand its presence in Gujarat and beyond. Their premium product can perform wheel alignments for six axles simultaneously, underscoring the company’s commitment to enhancing operational efficiency for clients.

ADR Axle India Pvt. Ltd. presented its innovative Rhino kit, which has seen success in the tipping trailer industry due to its advanced technology and design. Shashank Jangra, Head of Sales & Marketing, highlighted the company’s commitment to developing lighter-weight products tailored for the mining industry. “The Rhino kit not only improves efficiency but also reduces wear and tear, making it an ideal choice for operators,” he remarked. The company opted for a smaller equalizer design while offering a longer leaf spring, which improves load distribution. “The customers benefited from this approach, allowing for better performance in their operations,” he mentioned. Additionally, the air suspension system had seen strong demand in the 54-ton and 55-ton categories, receiving exceptional feedback from the market.

Looking ahead, Shashank indicated that ADR had been developing lighter-weight products tailored for the mining industry and planned to introduce a lower-capacity variant suitable for the road conditions of Gujarat. “We would soon be releasing that product,” he confirmed, underscoring the company’s commitment to meeting the evolving needs of the market.

Last but not the least, the key highlight from Jamna Auto Industries Ltd. made headlines with their advancements in air suspension technology. Sunil Laroiya, President & CTO, elaborated on their unique design that enhances durability and loading capacity. “We are showcasing all our new trailer products as well as the value additions we have made to our existing trailer offerings.” The company is transitioning the industry from mechanical to air suspension systems, which are maintenance-free and provide extra loading capacity.

Laroiya noted, “We were the only company to launch air suspension without leaf springs; instead, we use a fabricated beam.” The feedback for this unique design has been overwhelmingly positive, leading to further enhancements and a patent secured for their air suspension system. He emphasized, “The current air suspension we are supplying in the market is unique and patented for Jamna Auto alone.”

Unlike competitors who typically import their air suspensions from China, Jamna Auto manufactures its designs locally. “We have specific requirements from customers, and our suspensions are designed, developed, and made in India,” Laroiya explained. Every trailer product is engineered in-house, with a dedicated team for trailer suspension design and validation. This process includes comprehensive CA analysis, prototype testing, and rigorous endurance evaluations.

“Our products are now achieving a life of a minimum of three lakh kilometers,” Laroiya added, showcasing the durability of their offerings. Their unique single piece axle, with no fabrication, comes with an offering of five lakh kilometers on each axle. In addition to air suspension, the company recently introduced a new mechanical suspension using parabolic springs. “This design saves about 20-25% in weight, allowing for extra cargo, and offers double the lifespan compared to conventional suspensions,” he noted.
