Volvo CE featured a wide spectrum of industry-leading products at Excon 2017. The move highlighted the company’s strength in depth as well as the superior productivity of its machines.
Mr. Dimitrov Krishnan, Vice President and Head of Volvo CE India, said Excon 2017 was a perfect platform to highlight the company’s unique position in supporting India’s ongoing infrastructure buildout. “India’s push to expand connectivity among its population and business centres presents a huge opportunity for Volvo CE. Infrastructure development continues to be the key growth driver in our economy and while the country is making strong progress there is still much to be done. We remain the only major manufacturer present in all equipment sectors, mining, road building and general construction. So, Excon 2017 is a great opportunity for us to meet with customers and colleagues from a wide range of businesses and update them on our latest products, which this year include the exciting new EC200D excavator” he said.
Volvo CE also celebrated the company’s 20th anniversary in India. Since 1997, when the company first opened its office in Bangalore with a three-man team, Volvo CE has continually invested and expanded its presence. The company now employs a team of hundreds and operates a world-class factory in Bangalore. Its sales and service network has seen similar expansion, growing from just two dealers in the early days to a closely-linked network of 15 today, covering every part of India and offering some of the highest levels of customer service available in the country.
EC200D takes a bow
The new EC200D excavator from Volvo CE was the star of the company’s line up, in Excon 2017. Volvo is expecting strong interest in the EC200D, which has been specifically designed for general construction work. Featuring Volvo’s famed fuel efficiency, the new machine also has a bucket breakout force of 123 kN and an arm tearout force of 96 kN, which help it deliver high job site productivity and fast cycle times. Alongside the EC200D was its sister machine, the EC210D. Like the EC200D, the EC210D is a 20-ton rated machine, but it has been tailored for more heavy-duty applications, such as mining and quarry work, as well as general construction.
The third excavator on the Volvo booth drew large crowds at Excon 2017: the huge EC950E. This 90-ton rated heavyweight is the largest excavator in the Volvo line and was one of the largest in the show in Bangalore. Its maximum bucket capacity is 6 m3, while its breakout force of 424 kN and arm tearout force of 408 kN help deliver the machine’s unparalleled digging performance.
Ready for road building
With road building still in the spotlight in India, Volvo showcased a range of products to help contractors beat deadlines and boost profitability on the job. Pressure is on for contractors, not only to pick up the pace of road building but to improve the finished quality of roads, and taking advantage of the latest technology can help on both these counts.
From the company’s wide range of road building machines the P6820C ABG tracked paver; the DD90B asphalt compactor; and the SD110BA soil compactor were displayed at the show. The P6820C ABG offers paving widths of up to 10 m and comes equipped with a 142 kW-rated Volvo engine. Its paving output can reach up to 700 tons per hour.
The DD90B and SD110BA are two relative newcomers to the Volvo family, having both launched last year. The DD90B is a 9-ton double drum asphalt compactor which delivers a smooth finish in fewer passes for greater efficiency. The SD110BA is a 11-ton class single drum compactor for earthwork compaction. Both are manufactured at the Volvo plant in Bangalore. Rounding out the Volvo product display at Excon 2017 was the L150H from the line of wheel loaders. This popular model has a bucket capacity of up to 9.5 m3 and a static tipping load of 15,900 kg.
Volvo Trucks exhibited alongside Volvo CE and in total the companies occupied some 2,100 sq. m of exhibition space, making it one of the largest displays at Excon 2017. The company was located at OD22-26 in the outdoor area and senior Volvo executives and representatives from its nationwide dealer network were present throughout the week.
This year’s Excon 2017 featured 250,000 sq. m of exhibition display area and more than 1,000 exhibitors hailing from 12 countries.
