Volvo Group through its Development center in India and BMS College of Engineering, Basavanagudi, today inaugurated the ‘BMSCE and Volvo Group Centre for Flexible Material Research’. This centre is a culmination of two years of dedicated joint research in the domain of flexible materials’ testing and simulation. This reinforces the Volvo Group’s commitment to innovation through academic partnerships. This Centre will be a key source for path breaking research, promoting innovative ideas and nurturing engineering talent for the future.
“At Volvo Group, we firmly believe that innovation thrives through collaboration. Our partnership with BMSCE for Flexible Material Research, is a testament to this belief. By working closely with academic partners, we not only foster innovative ideas and nurture future engineering talent, but also drive research that is vital for our journey towards sustainability. We are confident that this collaboration shall continue to inspire path breaking research and innovation into the future” said, Kamal Bali, President and Managing Director, Volvo Group in India.
Maria Ebbesson, Site Chairperson Volvo Group Technology (GTT),India added, “The BMSCE and Volvo Research Centre represents our commitment to bridging the gap between industry and academia. Every innovation that we foster is aligned with our strategic goals and this partnership underscores our dedication to developing skilled talent and pushing the boundaries in material science. We are excited about the potential advancements and breakthroughs this collaboration will bring.”
This significant milestone comes as a consequence of a joint research memorandum (MoU) signed in 2023 between Volvo Group India and BMS College of Engineering. This partnership has led to the development of state-of-the-art Flexible Material Testing Rigs, which are set to provide fillip to the digital transformation journey. Volvo Group will use this lab in this Bangalore campus for its internal research and testing in the said domain while BMSCE would the academic research partner.
This said MoU has already facilitated the development of advanced testing machines, that can evaluate material behavior, characteristics of cables and hoses ranging from high voltage EV cables to safety critical hoses. Four testing machine designs that evaluate for Axial, Bending, Torsional and a Unique Simulation co-relation Rig were developed as part of this collaboration. These innovations are expected to significantly support advance material research and testing accuracy for Volvo Group.
