Sharing this information during in exclusive interview to MOTORINDIA, Mr. Philippe Divry, the newly-appointed Managing Director of Volvo India Pvt. Ltd. (VIPL), said that since the Indian market has proved very successful for Volvo, with vast potential to tap, the company is keen to develop local business with new and innovative products. However, the company’s major focus remains the mining segment.
Referring to its relationship with Eicher Motors, Mr. Philippe pointed out that even after four years of the JV establishment, Volvo is maintaining its strong ties with Eicher. This is possible because of the unique strategy adopted by the joint venture set up four years ago. Today Volvo has around 3,000 employees in India, and this is expected to grow further.
Through VE Commercial Vehicles (VECV) which has the 50 per cent equity participation each from Volvo and Eicher Motors, Volvo is bringing its worldwide technology to the Indian customers.
Further, it has learnt much from Eicher about cost consciousness and has thus created value addition to the product.
As a proof of the closer relationship between the two companies, VECV is building up a state-of-the-art engine plant at Pithampur, and the products therefrom will be exported to meet the worldwide requirements of Volvo.
