In an interesting tête-à-tête with N. Balasubramanian, Vaibhav Vinzanekar, Promoter & Director, Windals Precision, shares about his organization’s readiness for the future, the need to remain competitive and opportunities for the next phase of growth.
Excerpts:
How strong is Windals Precision’s presence in the axle space? How ready are you to tap into the market’s future growth potential?
Established in 1977 to cater to the farm equipment industry, Windals Precision is today a leading axle manufacturing company in India that manufactures front axle assembly, rear axle housings, tag axle, lift axle, grader axle and components for the farm equipment, HCV, LCV and construction equipment industry. We have five best-in-class manufacturing facilities located in Pune, Nagpur, Bhopal and Rudrapur, to cater to all our customers’ requirements. With a fully-integrated line with forging, heat treatment, hot forming, friction welding, fabrication, machining and an in-house paint facility all under one roof, we are able to deliver top-notch quality products to our customers. Today, Windals Precision is a leading axle supplier with over 50 per cent market share in the 2WD axle space. For housing and other assemblies for the HCV and trailer industry, we have a combined capacity of 10,000 axles a month. We are looking forward to the industry bouncing back and are prepared for the expected growth as India moves toward becoming a $5 trillion economy.
What is your strategy to remain competitive and agile in a dynamic and competitive market like ours?
Windals Precision has always worked towards remaining competitive. In the past decade we have diversified into multiple products and industries. With a range of over 100 variants of tractor axles, we have developed over 20 different variants of housings for our customers. We have successfully developed and manufactured lift axles for the HCV segment, thereby contributing to better fuel efficiency, increased tyre life and even distribution of load. Being a build-to-print company since inception, Windals Precision has now forayed into its own developed components for the three-wheeler segment with in-house designed e-axle, tag axle for trailers and in-house designed lift axle that deliver a number of benefits to customers.
What market opportunities do you see ahead and what developments are underway at your end to make the most of it? Are you also exploring new markets and geographies?
With many new products ready and having built a solid foundation in the domestic market, Windals Precision is aggressively looking at new opportunities in the domestic arena and also possible opportunities for exports. We will be looking at growing our existing business in the off-highway and commercial vehicle segments to cater to the growing needs of the industry by adding new customers and geographies. In addition, we are also looking to strengthen our presence in the construction equipment space through agile customer acquisition and increase our variants with existing customers.
We do believe that over the next five years we will contribute significantly towards the three-wheeler segment with our indigenously designed e-axle. With the FAME policy promoting local manufacturing and our cost-attractive solution, it will give the required impetus to the industry which currently imports these products from China. We also see significant growth in our trailer business with our trailer axle assembly designed and manufactured in-house for the Indian trailer market.
Windals Precision has an existing capacity to manage this growth for the next five years. We do believe that with these significant steps, our company is poised to sustain a double-digit growth in the years to come.
