York Transport Equipment (India) Pvt. Ltd. is happy with the success of its innovative YPS technology (York Precision System). “As a leader we have responsibility to offer better products to our customers. Keeping that in mind we have introduced the YPS technology. The YPS axle guarantees a set preload of wheel ends, achieved with the patented Temper-Loc nuts and Doctor Preload tools. Stressing on the benefits, Mr. G.S. Chatterjee, COO and Country Manager, York, explains: “We claim to give increased tyre life, extended wheel end components life with longer maintenance interval.
The fleet operator benefits to the extent of 25-30 per cent in the life of tyres with axles fitted with YPS technology. Recently the company launched the 5620 YPS axle having an hub grease interval of three lakh km and warranty on wheel end components up to 3 years or 3 lakh km, whichever is earlier.
Another important element that has helped York achieve the market leadership is its wide service & spares network. “We have 200 service centres and 250 spareparts outlets in India. We keep improving it by penetrating more in smaller cities and all major national and State highways. As a brand and a responsible corporate entity, we train service men of local garages and fleet operators. People who are trained by us alone are allowed to do maintenance of our axles within the warranty period,” says Mr. Chatterjee.
Mr. Chatterjee believes that a competent R&D team in its current manufacturing location in Pune will help them grow further. “R&D is the backbone of our company providing solution to our customers in the trailer segment”.
He further observes: “Based on the excellent R&D backed by strong service & spare network and ability to bring out innovative products, we will be able to grow our market share to 40 per cent by 2018-19 from the current 30 per cent in axles and 20-22 per cent in suspensions in India.”
Leading with innovation
It is evident that in the last eight years, York has acquired 30 per cent marketshare in axles, and 20-22 per cent in suspensions, thanks to its innovative products, better aftersales service and easy spareparts availability.
He adds: “We have already come out with 16 tonnes and 13 tonnes sheet metal suspension for trailers. These suspensions very well suit all Indian road condition. We have provided many innovative features like bolt on type wear pads on suspension hangers & equalizer for easy removal and replacement. We have already displayed these new suspensions at Auto Component Show Delhi 2016 and have been selling it in the local market since last 5 months. Our new axle with YPS and new range of suspensions are performing well, and customers keep placing repeat orders.
Today, York manufactures most of its items in India and also produces some special axles for export to countries like Australia, Singapore, South Africa and Indonesia. “Out of a total turnover of Rs. 250 crores at the Pune plant, approximately Rs. 60 crores comes from export. By 2019-20, we should reach a turnover of Rs. 450-500 crores as we have the capacity, and exports should contribute around Rs. 75-80 crores. We are making around 48,000 axles and 12,000 suspensions per year. We can further increase our production capacity as and when required”, signs off Mr. Chatterjee.
