Zwick Roell commencing 100% Indian operations soon

Zwick Roell Testing Machines Pvt. Ltd. in India is the joint venture partner for Zwick Asia Pte Ltd., Singapore, which is the regional headquarters for the Zwick Roell Group in the Asia-Pacific region. The company’s Indian operations, started 30 years ago, expanded and developed into a joint venture in 2004 with the help of its agents and partners in India.

The Indian partner provides a range of products from the Zwick Roell Group, covering almost every testing application, from quality control tests to research applications in industries like plastic, metals, automotive, textiles, medicine, food and packaging, building material, mechatronics, etc. This expansion includes an office each in Delhi, Pune and Bangalore, in addition to the head office in Chennai, Zwick Training Academy (ZTA) in Gurgaon, as well as resident engineer sales and service locations in Jamshedpur.

Discussing the company’s contribution to the automotive sector, Mr. Aleksander said that the automotive market is subject to severe global competition, marked by shifts within the vehicle segments and by new markets and suppliers, with the resulting over-capacity. Almost 25 per cent of Zwick’s activities are related to the automotive industry.

Zwick caters to major OEMs in India like Hyundai, Maruti, Ashok Leyland, Mahindra, Tata, Scania, Volvo, MAN, Daimler, Renault Nissan, Volkswagen, Skoda, etc., for their PCs, CVs, buses, trucks and heavy duty vehicles which use the company machines for testing the strength of a vehicle’s outer body, chassis, suspensions, drive axles, etc. Together with its qualified sales and service personnel all over India, the company provides strong after-sales for its testing equipments.

Currently the company’s testing machines are produced in Ulm-Einsingen, Germany. Toni Technik offers professional building materials testing equipment. ACMEL Labo develops a range of devices for testing cement and mortar, Indentec, a part of Zwick Roell AG, manufactures hardness testing machines, while GTM manufactures load cells, torque transducers and multi-component transducers. Messphysik Materials Testing GmbH, an Austrian company turns out optical strain measurement for materials testing and creep testing systems. In 2011 Zwick Roell Group took over ASMEC GmbH which had a product range covering hardware, software and measurement and optimization services for the characterization and analysis of mechanical surface properties in the micro and nano ranges.

With a large number of patents worldwide, Zwick Roell constantly invests in research and development to produce value-added products for its customers. With an annual turnover of 200 million euros, the group invests 9-10 per cent of its turnover for innovations, thereby improving its products. Though the Indian operations currently contribute about five per cent of its global turnover, the management feels there is vast potential left to be tapped in the country. The main objective of the Zwick Group’s operations in India, according to Mr. Aleksander, is to grow with major Indian industries by being pro-active.

Mr. Aleksander Koprivc visited Chennai to meet prominent companies to acquaint them with some recent developments in standard for testing of automotives from the Zwick Roell Group to key engineering, QC and R&D professionals, at a forum conducted on September 18.
