Voith’s DIWA.5 transmission has
been approved by Mercedes-Benz
to be fitted in its first O500 citybus
in India. For Voith, the order repre-
sents the market entry for series de-
liveries of DIWA transmissions to
India - a milestone in the company’s
history.
Mr. Karsten Kohler, Head of Key
Account Management - Bus Drive
Systems, Voith Turbo, spoke to
Motorindia
about the compa-
ny’s first commercial order in India
and more.
The bus and its DIWA transmis-
sion have already proven them-
selves in highly demanding operat-
ing conditions in South America,
North Africa and in the Middle East,
and now the successful combination
is all set to enter the competitive
Indian market. Demand originates
primarily from public transport op-
erators in large Indian cities. The
reasons for the decision in favour
of the DIWA automatics are, above
all, the robust design, the heat resist-
ance of the transmission, as well as
modern technology combined with
a maximum of reliability. Another
success factor is the proven Voith
service in India.
Mr. Kohler said: “Daimler (Mer-
cedes) is planning to introduce the
city buses with Voith transmissions
through 2012. We expect some good
number of buses to be put on road
this year with our transmissions.”
